What is a Protection from Abuse (PFA) Order? Is this the same as a "restraining order"?
“PFA” stands for Protection From Abuse. You may have heard the term “restraining order” used in common conversation. Pennsylvania courts do not issue restraining orders in domestic violence situations. Under Pennsylvania law, PFAs are the court issued remedy to protect yourself from abuse from an intimate partner or family member. PFA orders will not be entered to protect you from abuse by a stranger or a roommate.
