How Do I End a Common-Law Marriage?
Even though some states recognize common-law marriage, there is no
common-law divorce those states. It is important to understand that in Pennsylvania, the mere length of a relationship alone does not establish a common law marriage. Pennsylvania law no longer recognizes "new" common law marriages. Only those already in existence prior to 2003 are recognized as valid marriages. Common law marriages must be ended by the divorce process.
